This document describes the steps to obtain the License Key for a Classic License from both user interfaces - FMC and ASDM. In order to generate a Classic License for any Firepower service, a License Key is necessary. You can use a Firepower Management Center (FMC) or an Adaptive Security Device Manager (ASDM) in order to determine the license key.

Obtain the License Key

Use the FMC

If the device is managed by the Firepower Management Center, follow these steps in order to find the License Key:

  1. Log in to the Firepower Management Center.
  2. Choose System > License > Classic Licenses.

    Note: If the FMC runs a version earlier than 6.x, choose System > License.

  3. Click Add New License.
  4. From the screen, obtain the License Key.

Use the ASDM

If the device is managed by the ASDM, complete these steps in order to find the License Key:

  1. Choose the Configuration option that is located at the top of the window.
  2. Choose the ASA FirePOWER Configuration option which is located at the bottom of left pane.
  3. Choose the License option from the middle of the left pane.

  4. Click Add New License in order to obtain the License Key.

Procedure to apply and generate licenses

Below is the procedure to register the PAK file and generate the license key file for ESA, WSA and SMA:

  • Go to http://www.cisco.com/go/license and log in using your CCO id.
  • Click on to 'Continue to Product License Registration' button.
  • From the next screen, Click on 'Add New PAKs/Tokens' link.
  • Enter the PAK number and 'Submit'. Please see below example:
  • Tick the PAK/Token ID listed.
  • Click the 'Actions' drop down box.
  • Select 'Get New Licenses'. Please see below for example:
  • Click on 'Next' button from the next screen.
  • Select the appliance type whether the PAK number is for Physical appliance or Virtual appliance.
  • Enter the serial number of the appliance. Please enter the serial number of the appliance after the '-' sign.

  • 'Tick' the check box to accept the Terms of the License Agreement.
  • 'Submit' the request.

  • Please allow at least 30 minutes for the license key file to be sent to the 'Send To' email address.
